Teacher Christmas gifts

This is what the kids brought their teachers for Christmas this year. I picked up the whisks from Michaels dollar sections back in the summer because they came in red and green. Add a few Hershey kisses and a tag and we're all set.

Halloween projects

I wasn't sure I was going to have any projects for Halloween this year but after an evening browsing Pinterest I found a few things I had to do.

 LOVED this.

Here's mine

This would be perfect on my front door

Here's mine

I still have a few more I'd like to do before the holiday is over, here's what I've got in the works.

I've got my bats all traced just need to get them cut out and hung.

I've got my feathers on my wreath form but I'm trying to find something else to put on it than eye balls, maybe glittery spiders??

I have my dollor store pumpkins and I'm going to spray them black and instead of glitter glue I'll be using rhinestones.

Happy Halloween!!

Halloween Canvas

My inspiration came while wondering the isles at Hobby Lobby. I came across this great frame on canvas that I knew I needed to have. But the more I looked at it the more I decided that I could make it my self and make it to fit into my Halloween decor style.

This is what my finished project looks like and I LOVE it!!!

Unfortunately I didn't photograph step by step instructions for you but I think we can handle this with out it.

This is what you'll need:

* blank canvas  (I got mine at Michaels using my 40% off coupon)

*Ivory Krylon spray paint

* black acrylic paint

*foam brush

*Frog tape (which I would recommend over plain blue painters tape)

*chevron pattern

*4x6 black frame

*Halloween printable

*E600 glue

First I spray painted my canvas ivory and let that dry. While that was drying I printed out my chevron pattern that I found on the Sunset website which you can find HERE.  After I had cut that out I placed it on my canvas and used Frog tape to cover the exposed canvas. Once I had my first one done I would move my pattern and repeat.

After it's all taped off I applied 3 coats of the black acrylic paint (letting it dry between each coat).
My favorite part is taking off the tape to see those fun stripes.

I created a Halloween printable in Photoshop and had it printed at Walmart's one hour photo which is cheaper than paying for a color copy. I also found my 4x6 black frame at Walmart for $3 but you could also use a frame from the Dollar Tree. I removed the glass and any backing from the frame.

you can download this image HERE

After I had placed my printable in the frame I use some E600 glue to adhere the frame to the canvas. I let that dry over night before standing it upright. Of course you can paint this to match your own Halloween decor, I think it would look amazing in silver or orange as well.

I am excited to see it among my other fun Halloween decorations this year!

I also love glittery black skulls. This is a project I did using one that you can find on my blog.

Visiting teaching treat

Summer has put a damper on my Visiting Teaching. It's so hard to coordinate schedules when everyone is taking vacations. So to start the next month off right I did this little treat to take to my sisters.

The tag on top reads:
We are looking forward top "popping" in on you each month. Love your visiting teachers

I put popcorn kernels in a mason jar, topped the lid with a cupcake paper and some ribbon, and added a brad to cover the overlap of the ribbon.

I also added a few paperbags to pop the popcorn in as well as the instructions on how to do that.

I also put popcorn flavorings in those cute little tins that you can find in the wedding sections at Michaels. Topped them off with some tags so they know what is what.

I love that you can take somethings simple and package it up cute to be a fun little treat.

End of year treats

For the end of the year treats I wanted to do something different than just the basic gift card so I made these cake kits. I've made them before but a little differently, for baby shower prizes and they were just as fun this way.

Cake mix and frosting wrapped up cute with an apron card to match, each a little different for each teacher.

This is what the inside said, then each child signed their name for their teacher.

I also made treats for each kid to hand out to their classmates

Already for summer and the crazy hot weather!!!

Teacher appreciation week

It's teacher appreciation week starting Monday and this year I wanted to actually do something for my kids teachers. I have great respect for teachers, especially really great teachers. I know how hard it is to get my kids just to do their homework for a few hours each day so I can only imagine what  full day would be like.

I always have good intentions but it always seem to sneak up on me. Well not this year, this year I'm prepared. I started on these a week ago and will have my last one finished this weekend. I of course went to my go to place for great ideas, Pinterest. I'm so thankful people are willing to share their good ideas and talent with the rest of us so that I don't have to come up with all this on my own.

Day one: highlighters ~ inspiration can't be found. I know I've seen these somewhere before If you know please leave me a comment with the source so I can give due credit.

Day two: a pencil bouquet ~ inspiration found here.

Day three: hand soap ~ inspiration found here.

Day four: scissors ~ inspiration found here

Day five still to come, still need the candy for the jar. Will post as soon as I have it done but here is where I found my inspiration.

Revised 5/7/12
Ok here is the last teacher appreciation gift we'll be giving this week
